What's this all about ?

Basically all you have to do is join our DreamHouseinFrance Club which then entitles you to take part in a free-entry competition in which the prizes are TEN - yes 10 - fantastic apartments/town houses in the south of France near the beautiful Pyrenees mountains. Read our blogs HERE

No, we're not joking !

This has got to be a scam - and not even a very subtle one at that - I hear you cry!

Please, just read on ...

Over last weekend I was sitting browsing my Sunday Times and chanced upon a piece about a hard up student from Wiltshire in the UK, called Alex Tew, who decided 3 months ago to launch a website called milliondollarhomepage.com to sell advertising at $1 per pixel to help finance his studies at university.

Cuckoo Land stuff, huh ? Probably pissed out of his brain one night, out on the town with his mates - but what the hell - he hadn't come up with any other bright ideas to generate some cash so why not give this one a try.

Well, the staggering thing is that this idea has so far raised this very smart 21 year old nearly $900,000 in under four months. He has almost completed his target to sell 1,000,000 pixels on his home page. All of which should serve as a timely reminder to cynical old, would-be internet entrepreneurs like me - who've been searching in vain for years for just such an internet holy grail - that the internet is still a very powerful medium !

So after I had digested this for an hour or two - silently cursing this guy's luck/ingenuity/bright idea - I had an equally hare-brained idea !

Like many people in Britain, I find the idea of having a second home in France, very appealing. I particularly love the Pyrenees area in the far south west of France. This area is now very accessible from most major airports in Europe and has lots of plus points:

  • For a start it's easy and cheap to get to - typically only £50 return from Gatwick to Toulouse;
  • It's not crowded;
  • The scenery is spectacular;
  • Food and booze are also wonderful and cheap too;
  • Property is still cheap when compared with the UK but it represents a good investment opportunity because prices are rising rapidly - probably because we Brits are buying it up fast;
  • There's lots to do - there's walking, cycling, fishing, skiing and a whole host of other healthy pursuits.

So why not buy something ?

Unfortunately not everyone has the wherewithall to do so.

Now, when I was out in the Pyrenees mountains recently I started to look around for properties in the Hautes Pyrenees region - a very beautiful part of south-west France - which is only about an hour and a half's drive from Toulouse. I collected some agents' details and went to view a few smaller properties - but also visited a massive old chateau-style building which has been empty for nearly 3 years and was previously used as a children's holiday centre.

Outline planning consent exists to convert this to residential use and it could easily be renovated and divided into 10 or more large 3/4 bedroom town houses or apartments - but it is a large project requiring a lot more money than I have access to. However it would be a fantastic opportunity to own a really beautiful property with spectacular mountain views. See the pictures on our website: http://www.adreamhouseinfrance.com/gallery/gallery.html

A great idea - but not very practical because I'd need to win the Lottery to make it happen.

But then I got to thinking about how I might be able to make this project happen using the internet.

So here's what I've come up with:

I have decided to form a DreamHomeinFrance Club. Every member pays $100 to join for a 5 year period. One of the benefits of membership (there will be others - which I will go into later) will be the opportunity to take part in our free-entry competition to win one of 10 beautiful houses from the development project I have outlined above. Simple enough - and it stands a great chance of success - if we can just get enough people to take part - and the odds are far, far better than wasting money on the National Lottery, the Pools or Scratchcards.

Each year, though, many of us spend far, far more than $100 on these everyday gambling pursuits - with absolutely no hope of success whatsoever !

The project that I have outlined here on adreamahouseinfrance.com requires 1.5 million US Dollars to get underway and 4 million US Dollars to complete in full. On completion, each of the 10 properties, that result, will be worth between $300,000 and $500,000 each - at current market values - but in this part of Europe the property prices are rising rapidly.

So this is a fantastic chance to own a really valuable asset. And you have ten separate chances of winning one of these fabulous properties - which cuts the odds down to around 3,000 to 1 - compared with a massive 14 million to 1 for winning the Main UK Lotto.

At the moment, $100 converts to about £68 (Pounds Sterling) - about the same as you'd spend going out for meal with your wife or on a tank of petrol for a medium sized car. But if my scheme works, and I have absolutely no doubt that it will - a $100 investment will change the life of ten families in a spectacular way.

But let me be straight with you now - I have no guarantees whatsoever to offer you for any of this - I just ask you to take the idea at face value and believe in my/your dream. I have consulted several local builders, developers and professional advisers and I am very confident that I can make this scheme happen - and dramatically change the lives of for ten families - so just watch this space!

And what do I get out of it ? Well, there is actually enough space in the main shell of the chateau building for me to have a house too.

And what if we don't raise enough from memberships to get the thing off the ground, beyond stage 1 ? No, I will not pocket the money and run ! I will either down-size the project and complete the scheme on a smaller scale or donate the membership proceeds to my favourite charity - St Catherine's Hospice.

I have previously donated proceeds from a sponsored bike ride (The 2003 Etape du Tour from Pau to Bayonne - which as it happens was held in the Pyrenees too, by the way) and my wife Gisela has worked as a volunteer for more than five years for this very worthy charity that provides palliative care for terminally ill cancer patients in Sussex. See this link for details: http://www.stch.co.uk .

So your $100, in the worst-case scenario, will not disappear into a black hole - it will go to a very worthy cause, helping cancer sufferers.

On the other hand, the best-case scenario is that you could be one of ten lucky winners who will end up with a $400,000 Dream House in an idyllic mountain location in south-west France. This is definitely not a scam - it's a genuine opportunity to change your life in a very spactacular way !

Just look at these pictures of the surrounding countryside - the scenery is spectacular. The picture below is the view from the front garden of the property.
